Orest Korbutt 1937 – 2018

With very heavy hearts we announce the passing of Orest Korbutt.

Orest gave countless hours to our club, and was on the Knights of Columbus Hockey Club Board of Directors for more than 50 years, most recently as Chair of the Board. Orest was key in purchasing the KC Twin Arenas, and in building our hockey club over the years.

Orest worked tirelessly to help ensure every player who ever put on a KC jersey was treated well, in the hope that they would all come to love the game as much as he did.

Orest received numerous honours for his lifelong work in support of minor hockey, including the Hockey Canada Order of Merit and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Award. Orest was inducted into the Edmonton Sports Hall of Fame, the Alberta Sports Hall of Fame, and the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame, and was also named a Life Member of the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame and Hockey Edmonton.

In his many years of contribution to the hockey community Orest served as the President of Hockey Alberta, a director with the Canadian Hockey Association, and a member of the Alberta Sport Connection Board of Directors.

Our most sincere condolences to his entire family, and to all those whose lives he touched over the years

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Orest’s memory to Edmonton Sports Central.
